Colombian-born designer Johanna Ortiz, known for her signature ruffles and off-the-shoulder silhouettes worn by Amal Clooney and Sandra Bullock, among many other celebrities, spoke before a full house at Istituto Marangoni Miami about the importance of embracing your roots, staying true to yourself and the role social media played in her career. “You have to always be true to your nature and DNA, happy and passionate about what you do and what you want to do next. This makes all the difference,” said Ortiz during the third installment of the successful series of talks “In Conversation With” that was inaugurated in July 2018. During her visit to Istituto Marangoni Miami, Ortiz toured the school with Massimo Casagrande, Director of Education, and participated in mentoring sessions with students who had the opportunity to present their work and ask questions to the designer who created a brand that has become one of the most influential and sought after in the world.

With the aim of turning Miami into an internationally recognized fashion hub, the world-renowned Italian fashion and design school, Istituto Marangoni, will be holding this series of talks with the most influential names in fashion and design. The first guest was Steven Kolb, President of CFDA, followed by designer Bibhu Mohapatra who held mentoring sessions with students during his visit to the Miami campus. This project is taking place in partnership with renowned fashion business expert, Eva Hughes, an advisory board member of Istituto Marangoni Miami who will also be moderating this series of talks Istituto Marangoni Miami offers a new base for emerging local and international fashion students who wish to express their creativity and learn key industry skills. With a highly qualified faculty, combining European professors and prominent local professionals, the school offers a two-year Associate of Arts Degree in Fashion Studies, a four-year Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design, Fashion Styling, and Fashion Business, also offering a Master’s in Fashion & Luxury Brand Management.
