Further Information

The “Red Collar” project created by Sara Battaglia uses fashion to promote women’s voices and promote awareness of gender violence – the red color in the capsule represents the strength of women to rise above abuse creating a global symbol against gender-based violence.

Revealed for the first time at Miami Art Week, the specially crafted “Red Collar” shirts — which included those by Marangoni students and prominent design figures were auctioned during the exclusive event. All proceeds raised at the event will support Istituto Marangoni Miami’s scholarship fund, aimed at supporting talented and underprivileged students to pursue their careers in The Miami School of Fashion and Design.

An Iconic Re-Interpretation by Notable Public Figures

Special editions of the “Red Collar” shirt, were reimagined and revealed at the event crafted by notable public figures and close friends of Sara Battaglia including Giovanna Battaglia Engelbert, Rossy de Palma, Lola Schnabel, and Elizabeth Sulcer.

As an educational initiative, the project involved 20 talented students from Istituto Marangoni, each tasked with reinterpreting the “Red Collar” shirt to bring fresh perspectives to its symbolic message. These unique designs will be showcased at IMM.

Each “Red Collar” shirt was produced by Dritto Filo, an anti-violence center and organization committed to supporting women survivors of abuse. Through employment opportunities and holistic rehabilitation, Dritto Filo empowers women to rebuild their lives and reintegrate into society, transforming each garment into a powerful symbol of resilience and renewal.

Hakan Baykam, President and CEO of Istituto Marangoni Miami, commented: “We are honored to partner with Sara Battaglia on this powerful initiative to raise awareness about domestic abuse. This collaboration not only speaks out against violence but also offers our students an opportunity to engage with an issue of profound importance through fashion.”

Sara Battaglia, commented: “The Red Collar project is an emblem of education, solidarity, and rebirth”, said Sara Battaglia. “By collaborating with Istituto Marangoni Miami, we’re empowering the next generation of designers to use fashion as a platform for meaningful change, while supporting women who are on their own journey of renewal.”

Giovanna Battaglia Engelbert, Creative Director of Swarovski, commented: “The Red Collar project is a testament to the transformative power of creativity and craftsmanship. This special edition red collar shirt, adorned with 3,000 red Swarovski crystals, is more than a statement piece, it’s a symbol of resilience, strength, and hope.
