Bibhuo Pre Event Istituto Marangoni

Press Release | Bibhuo Pre Event Istituto Marangoni

Istituto Marangoni Miami’s President, Hakan Baykam, announced today that designer Bibhu Mohapatra will be the second guest of the “In Conversation With” series of talks hosted at the Miami Campus of Istituto Marangoni. Last July, Steven Kolb, President and CEO of CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America), was the first speaker at this event and spoke about the challenges of fashion and gave career advice to emerging designers and students.

“Our ‘In Conversation With’ series is not just about hosting influential figures in the industry, but also about fostering a unique cultural exchange and sparking new thinking. We are privileged to have Bibhu Mohapatra as our second guest, a designer who deeply understands the power of culture in our lives and in the business of fashion. This event offers our multicultural students an unprecedented opportunity for exchange, inspiration, and creativity,” said Baykam.

With the aim of turning Miami into an internationally recognized fashion hub, Istituto Marangoni, a world-renowned Italian fashion and design school, will hold a series of talks with the most influential names in fashion and design at its Miami Campus. The project is taking place in partnership with its advisory board member, renowned fashion business expert Eva Hughes, who will also be moderating the talks.

Born in India and living in New York for the last 20 years, Mohapatra will discuss the challenges of balancing heritage and success, the new culture of doing business in fashion, and the importance of adapting to new consumer behaviors and technology as the industry evolves. “I look forward to my conversation at Istituto Marangoni Miami to discuss the ever-increasing importance of culture as fuel for the fashion business,” said Mohapatra, who will celebrate the 10th anniversary of his own fashion label next February 2019.

The recently opened Istituto Marangoni Miami offers a new base to emerging local and international fashion students who wish to express their creativity and learn key industry skills. With a highly qualified faculty, combining European professors and prominent local professionals, the school offers a two-year Associate of Arts Degree in Fashion Studies, a four-year Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design, Fashion Styling, and Fashion Business, also offering a Master’s in Fashion & Luxury Brand Management, adding to a number of shorter courses and continuing education workshops and seminars throughout the academic year.

Dressing for Uncertainty: Fashion’s Response to Politics, Pop Culture, and Sustainability

It seems as though one of the more inherent human abilities is taking those cultural currents and turning them into art, most of the time unconsciously.
