EXPLORE. EXPERIMENT. EXPAND YOUR CREATIVE SKILL SET.
Take advantage of our new cross-program Labs—short, hands-on courses designed to help you step outside your primary area of study and build new creative skills. These Labs are open exclusively to current Istituto Marangoni Miami students and offer a unique opportunity to collaborate with peers from different disciplines, expand your portfolio, and gain practical experience in high-demand areas like sewing, photography, social media, illustration, and digital design.
Whether you’re a fashion business student wanting to sharpen your Photoshop skills or a fashion design student interested in digital storytelling, these Labs are a chance to explore, experiment, and enhance your creative edge. All Labs are taught by industry professionals and structured to fit into your existing schedule.
Each Lab runs for 6–8 weeks, 1 hour per week, starting May 12, 2025.
PHOTOSHOP FOR SOCIAL MEDIA
In this hands-on lab, students will learn how to use Photoshop to design content specifically for social media platforms. You’ll start with basic tools and move into more advanced features like retouching, smart objects, and typography. By the end of the course, you’ll have created a complete brand campaign tailored for digital use.
SEWING
In this lab, students will learn the basics of both hand and machine sewing. You’ll practice different stitching techniques, understand how to follow patterns, and complete small projects like simple garments or accessories. This is a great opportunity to build foundational skills that support any creative discipline.
PHOTOGRAPHY
This lab teaches the essentials of photography, with a focus on using digital cameras, lighting setups, and composition. Students will learn how to shoot and edit images, apply visual storytelling techniques, and build confidence behind the lens—skills that are valuable for portfolios, branding, and social content.
DIGITAL AND SOCIAL MEDIA IN FASHION
Students in this lab will explore how digital and social media shape the fashion industry today. You’ll learn how to use content creation tools, develop platform-specific strategies, and understand how to engage audiences through fashion-focused social media campaigns. Ideal for anyone interested in fashion marketing or brand building.
ILLUSTRATION AS ART AND DESIGN
This lab introduces students to key drawing techniques including line work, proportion, perspective, and shading. You’ll practice both traditional and modern illustration styles while learning how to express concepts, moods, and design ideas through drawing. It’s perfect for students who want to improve their visual communication skills.

Students work on guided exercises and real-world projects that allow them to immediately apply what they’re learning. The labs are designed to be interactive and collaborative, encouraging students from different programs to explore new creative approaches together. Whether you’re learning a new skill from scratch or building on previous experience, the teaching style is supportive, focused, and tailored to a variety of skill levels.
By participating in the labs, students will gain practical skills in areas that complement their main field of study. These short-format courses are designed to enhance creativity, improve technical abilities, and add depth to student portfolios. Students will walk away with a stronger grasp of tools like sewing machines, cameras, illustration techniques, social media platforms, and Adobe Photoshop. In addition, the labs help students become more versatile, giving them a competitive edge in creative industries by expanding their ability to work across disciplines.
All labs take place on campus using dedicated spaces and resources tailored to each discipline. The Sewing Lab is held in a fully equipped studio with professional-grade machines and tools. The Photography Lab uses lighting kits, backdrops, and digital cameras in our media studio. The Photoshop and Digital Media Labs take place in our computer classrooms, which include access to the full Adobe Creative Suite and other digital tools. Students also have access to shared collaboration spaces and creative materials when needed, ensuring a smooth and well-supported learning experience from start to finish.
Current Istituto Marangoni Miami students can register for any lab by emailing student.services@immiami.com and indicating which lab they are interested in.
